Hello, lovely friends, planet healers, knowledge seekers!
My name is Jessica, and I'm thrilled to have you on my quest to improve my quality of life through knowledge sharing, nutrition, enjoyment of the great outdoors, and reducing my impact on the environment while, perhaps most importantly, healing our mother Earth. I am an avid gardener and junior citizen soil scientist promoting regenerative systems and healthy soils in an urban landscape. I am a grower, seller, and promoter of microgreens, which are absolutely packed with nutrition for human health. I hope you also find knowledge, support, and those of like minds through this blog.
My roots trace back to a small farm in Southern Maryland. When reminiscing, the memories are still so vivid in my mind. Fields brimming with life, the scent of fresh hay, and the joy of romping through the vast natural landscape—all seen from a child’s perspective—paint a vivid picture of simple, carefree days. There was also a lot of hard work and responsibility in caring for the land and the animals, helping my family with those tasks, and preserving food so everyone could eat. The songbirds provided the soundtrack of my childhood, and spending time with my Father oystering in the Chesapeake Bay during my early years instilled in me a profound appreciation for nature that has stuck with me to this very day.
Life took a sunny and “Dang, it’s hot” turn when I moved to Florida, where I spent a hot and humid 33 years! Palm trees replaced deciduous trees, and sand became my new backyard where I had to learn all about creating soil to grow nutritious fruits and vegetables. Now, majestic mountain peaks grace the view from my window, and alkaline clay has replaced the sand beneath my feet.
You'll often find me with my hands in the soil or playing with compost and making microbial life-promoting concoctions while tending to my garden. But it's not just about pretty flower petals and vegetables! I'm an avid gardener deeply passionate about regenerative soil practices and translating the healing power of healthy soil into proper human nutrition. I love giving back to the Earth and healing her even as I take life from her, trying to ensure our planet remains lush and fertile for generations. I plan to leave my urban environment and return to the land one day; until then, I must adapt to the context of living in an urban environment. I have the challenge of thinking of all kinds of out-of-the-box ideas on how to garden regeneratively in areas with rules, regulations, and small spaces. By sharing this knowledge, we in urban and suburban areas can make a difference in our ecosystems.
Like most of you, I try to make eco-friendly choices every day, whether in the products I use, the food I consume, or how to change my behaviors. I am always looking for ways to reduce my impact on the earth. In many ways, I'm your quintessential tree hugger in an urban environment, and proud of it!
I am horrified at the daily damaging environmental impacts I see, as many of you are as well, so I have thrown down the gauntlet and I am trying to do my part to change my mindset, expand my knowledge, and share that knowledge with everyone to heal and help our Mother Earth and to help everyone live a more vital life.
As a Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, and Auntie, I care deeply about my family’s health. I strive to ensure everyone enjoys the best nutrition and exercise to enhance their vigor, vitality, and overall well-being. Having cared for and lost many loved ones to metabolic diseases, I am driven to share what I’ve learned about healthy lifestyle habits while continuing to expand my knowledge and thrive as I age. Every day, new scientific discoveries reshape our understanding of longevity, human health, and the profound impact of our environment. I am passionate about educating myself and others on these topics, believing that knowledge is a powerful tool for growth and resilience.
Now, at 55 years young, I am on a journey to age healthfully and thrive, embracing a life rich in quality and purpose. Nature has been a steadfast companion on this path, teaching me resilience, beauty, and the interconnected rhythms of life. I invite you to join me in this journey as we work toward healing ourselves and the earth while nurturing vitality and fellowship.
So, here's to growing, learning, closed-loop systems, and loving this planet and our fellow humans a little more every day. Whether you're a nature lover or just curious about sustainable living or enhancing your quality of life. I hope you find something here that resonates with you, and I welcome you with open arms to our budding community.
To Your Health, Mother Earth, and Fellowship!
Warmly,
Jessica
